What is parent engagement?

School is an important time for all involved and parents have a key role to play in assisting their child and the school. This important role that parents play in supporting students to learn, both at home and in partnership with schools, is often referred to as ‘parent engagement.’

Parents have unique knowledge and expertise about each child’s interests, likes, dislikes, strengths, needs, routines and experiences. This is important information that can assist schools in meeting the needs of each student. When parents and schools form collaborative relationships, it gives students a strong opportunity to learn and thrive.
