Why is parent engagement important?

Research has found that parent engagement is highly important to children’s learning and has positive effects on:

  • Educational attainment including school grades and test scores, higher graduation and class completion rates and a greater likelihood of enrolling in tertiary education; and
  • Student learning and development including regular school attendance, social skills, behaviour, adaptation to school, engagement in school work and belief in the importance of education.
